About Formula Sense

Formula Sense was created to help families and health practitioners break through infant formula confusion. Founder Lisa Richardson has spent more than two decades at the intersection of science and service, supporting the health and well being of children and their families.

Her motivation for creating Formula Sense? Noticing that in our information-rich world, a lack of reputable, independent information about formula feeding was causing parents avoidable stress. And, the peace of mind she witnesses when parents are supported by practitioners in making science-informed decisions that really fit their family needs.

About Lisa Richardson, MS, RD, LDN

Lisa’s science education began as early as the first grade when she learned about nutritional deficiencies (specifically, beriberi). She was amazed by the idea that you could get sick from something you didn't eat! Her love for nutrition continued to her fifth grade science fair project, which earned an award and involved a stomach, small intestine, and large intestine made of plastic tubing and a bucket! She followed her interest in nutrition all the way to Case Western Reserve University where she earned her Master of Science in Nutrition with a focus in Maternal and Child Health.

Lisa has a diverse background in clinical nutrition, public health, and training. Her clinical experience includes providing medical nutritional therapy for high risk women and children and proudly working for the WIC Program. She spent several years in public health including, helping to develop North Carolina’s highly successful birth defects prevention initiative, Get Folic and also as and Improvement Advisor for the UCLA-Duke National Center for Child Traumatic Stress. Most recently, Lisa has worked as a speciality pediatric dietitian in one of North Carolina’s premiere medical facilities. Her current work with Formula Sense is dedicated to helping parents and health care providers break through infant formula confusion.

When she’s not helping parents to make informed decisions about their nutrition and medical care, you might find Lisa riding a tandem bicycle with her husband, playing with her dog Fig, or singing with Voices.

Appreciation and Gratitude

Formula Sense has been made better by the thoughtful contributions of many people. Parents who shared their stories, worries, and hopes. Registered Dietitians and doctors who tested and reviewed tools, and continue to give feedback on articles and resources. Associates and consultants who I have hired to bring an idea to life. Here are just a few of the many people who have helped along the way.
